Post-Partum Must-Haves

Post-Partum is a challenging time. You may get the baby blues right after birth. You may start crying and can’t stop. This is normal. It should go away in a few days. If it doesn’t go away, then you could have postpartum depression. This is important to pay attention to because you may need to talk to someone or get on some medication. It is okay to say you need help. It is a medical diagnosis and needs to be addressed. If it runs in your family, make sure your doctors, friends, and husband know ahead of time so they can keep an eye on any changes they see. On top of all of these emotions, you may be physically in pain. The following items are meant to relieve some of the pain that comes with post-partum, and I highly recommend all of these items.

1. Recovery Belt

Wearing a recovery belt is a must! It helps keep everything tight, so when you need to cough or use the restroom, it helps support everything. The days I didn’t wear this were the hardest. I think wearing this was also why I could get back up on my feet so quickly.

2. Adult Diaper

Sorry mom, but there is going to be a lot of blood in the first few days and possibly weeks, depending on your body. You won’t regret buying these. You will get some makeshift diapers at the hospital, but they are a pain to get on and off. These made my life so much easier.

3. Relief Spray

I sprayed this every day multiple times a day for at least a week. You may get one from the hospital, but having another one on hand wouldn’t hurt.

4. Medicated Cooling Pads

If you tear, get these. You will not regret it.

5. Nightgown

This is the most comfortable nightgown. It is long enough to cover everything, the front splits open, and you can easily breastfeed in it. I still wear this nightgown because it is so soft and the perfect length. I lived in this after I was home from the hospital.

6. Breast Therapy Pads

If you are going to breastfeed, then get these. You never know when you will have a clogged duct or mastitis and need relief.

7. Cabbage

Go to the store and get two things of cabbage if you plan to stop breastfeeding and keep them cool. Take one piece off and place it over your breast in your bra. Once it gets warm, take that piece out and replace it with another cold piece. This was the only thing that helped me get some relief when I decided to stop breastfeeding.

8. Sitz Bath

This felt amazing. Try this if you are having some pain, even after using all the items listed above.

9. Lactation Brownies

Are you struggling to make milk? Try these brownies! They are delicious and made a huge difference in my supply.

10. Hot/Cold Pads

Unfortunately, uterine cramping comes after giving birth. This cooling/heating pad can be placed right on your belly to relieve some of the pain.

  1. And a family member or friend who can come help you stay on top of dishes and laundry. And food delivery or someone willing to prepare some frozen meals. My mom was always great at helping and not just coming to steal baby cuddles. 🥰
