Have you ever had a moment where everything was quiet, and for a split second, you felt at peace? But then you are brought back to reality and realize that if everything is quiet, then that means the toddlers are up to no good. Sure enough, this happened to me yesterday!
We started the day by going to get our Christmas tree. My husband wanted to leave right at 8:30 a.m. so we could get there when they opened. Of course, having babies means we are always late. We ended up leaving at almost 9:30 a.m. I have always believed that if we are running late, it was meant to be. There have been multiple times when I knew I was running late but didn’t feel anxious at all about it and actually felt calm. Then I found out that there was a massive car pile-up. This reminds me that someone is looking out for me. When I start to worry about being late, I remember there is a reason for everything.
We have gone to Pinecrest Christmas Tree Farm every year since I can remember. I can picture being there as a kid. It was much smaller then, but you could see ornaments and toys all over. You could hear the rumbling of a train going above your head and around the store. It was magical. Now that I am older, it doesn’t feel as magical anymore until I see my kids’ eyes light up as they see the ornaments and drink the delicious hot cocoa or get to ride on the horse-drawn wagon.
So we go out and find the tree of our dreams. Luckily we had just missed the rain. It was pouring down on the way home! My 17-year-old son rode home in the truck with my husband. My mother the babies and I took the SUV home as we blasted Christmas music. Once we get home, we see that our Christmas tree is soaking wet. So my husband gets the genius idea to get the leaf blower out to get it dry. It was so funny! I was holding on to the tree, but not very well because it started to twist and turn the way he was blowing. Of course, he thought it was hilarious and blew it in my face several times. When we got the tree inside, decorated it, and took our family pictures, it was time to decorate the house.
The babies were hanging out while I was getting Christmas decor put up around the house. My husband was cooking turkey and a bunch of delicious sides. I was in the zone and feeling good and excited, and the babies weren’t even trying to get my attention. I should have known then that that is not a good sign. Eventually, I heard my husband say Oh my gosh, look at this. I turn on my camera, knowing it will be something to document. I enter the dining room to see my babies playing with the Roomba, AKA Maid. They were pushing her around and starting her up, and stopping her. My poor robot was getting beat up, and they thought it was funny.
See below to see them in action.
