“Christmas can be a magical time, but it can also lead to more clutter in the home.”

Did anyone else feel overwhelmed with all the new toys and stuff that comes with Christmas? Santa had gotten the babies quite a few bigitems that took up so much room. Of course, I love all the things; it just adds up. So two days after Christmas, I took all my decorations down, including the Christmas tree, to get some of our space back. My husband and I then spent the next week going through each room and getting rid of things we didn’t love any more, broken items, and anything we didn’t have a place for.
1. Get rid of things you don’t love, are broken, and don’t have a place.

We ended up with eight garbage bags full of random things, and we still aren’t done! Three bag fulls of baby clothes that didn’t fit the babies, were stained, had holes, or didn’t feel comfortable anymore. Then we went through toys that the babies didn’t play with or had missing pieces. Next was our living room, kitchen, and dining room since they were all right next to each other. I took everything that wasn’t already put away and stacked it on the dining room table. That is what I did when cleaning my Christmas decorations as well. Everything gets put in a pile and then put away; my mom taught me this. So we used this idea when organizing and going through rooms. Everything on the floors or that is out of place goes into a big pile. Our pile just happened to be on our dining room table. Then we cleaned the house and then slowly worked on organizing the random stuff on the table. We had three piles; trash, donate, or put away. If we got stuck and didn’t know where to put something, then we decided to donate it. We don’t want to have a cluttered home anymore. It becomes overwhelming and adds stress to our life.
2. Create three piles; trash, donate, or put away.
The next step was our bedroom which became a dumping ground for random things when we needed to clean quickly and didn’t have a place for it. So again, we started by creating a pile of anything that didn’t belong and slowly began finding a spot for things. Not only is it important to get rid of unwanted or unnecessary things, but to find a place for EVERYTHING. If something doesn’t have a specific place, it shouldn’t be in your home.
3. If something doesn’t have a specifc place get rid of it!
Lastly, it is important to spend some money on organizational items. Find pictures of a space that looks like yours and that you want to copy. Then buy those storage items to re-create the look in your own home. This is what I have done, and it makes a huge difference in the way our home feels. It is now neat, organized, and cozy.

Love it! That’s what we do…multiple times a year it feels like. 🥴 A women in an online group says she trys to sell on FB marketplace before donating. She averages $10,000-15,000 a year!!! What!?
Wow! I feel like I don’t have the energy to focus on selling when I just want everything out of the house! I think my next target is to try not spend as much money.
